Sergeant Timothy Boyce has served the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for over 15 years. After graduating the Police Academy, he was assigned to the 5th District where he served the community of North St. Louis from 2008 to 2011.
Sgt. Boyce transferred to the Rapid Deployment Unit which was a street level team of proactive officers who made countless narcotics and firearms arrests in the most violent neighborhoods of the entire St. Louis metro area. RDU was disbanded and redistributed in 2013 throughout the various districts and rebranded as the “Super Overlays”.
Sgt. Boyce was sent to the 4th District Overlay where he performed the same functions as RDU and continued making quality arrests on some of the most dangerous criminals in the area through search warrants, investigations, and intelligent street work.
In 2015, Sgt. Boyce transferred to the Mobile Reserve/SWAT unit where he received high-level training and became a team breacher. For nine years, he served high-risk search warrants, continued arresting some of the most violent criminals through quality street work, and began excelling as an Active Shooter Response trainer for the SLMPD. Mobile Reserve and SWAT separated into two units. Sgt. Boyce stayed in the tactical side of the job, remaining in SWAT.
Sgt. Boyce decided it was time to take the promotional test and become a supervisor, achieving the rank of Sergeant at the end of 2023. He was transferred to the 3rd District where he supervised younger officers, passing his knowledge and experience for a brief time. In January, 2024, Sgt. Boyce transferred back to SWAT where he remains today.
The SLMPD believed it was time for Sgt. Boyce to carry more teaching responsibilities and placed him in charge of the Active Shooter Response program. Sgt. Boyce has developed a program which not only involves survival for the officers, but also mitigating casualties through proper medical care and building confidence to get the job done by managing stress in the heat of critical incidents.
Sgt. Boyce decided it was time to begin his own business and founded Critical Incident Response Training Services LLC. CIRTS LLC believes confidence is the key to unlocking the warrior mindset within police officers and armed security personnel. He has been training not only the SLMPD but outside agencies as well. He strongly believes in the idea that all officers and armed security should be able to work together confidently, understanding the same tactics and coming together to stop an active threat.
Sgt. Boyce believes hard work, both physically and mentally, helps to master anxiety which comes with high stress crisis situations. He values the sharing of ideas to keep improving the entire region for a safer environment. Sgt. Boyce has expanded CIRTS into security risk management site assessments, emergency medical training within the heat of imminent danger, advanced tactical CQB training, civilian “run, hide, fight” training and firearms proficiency. CIRTS stands with the communities who wish to feel safe in public so they can enjoy time with family and friends peacefully.
Sgt. Timothy Boyce has received certifications and top tier training to include the following:
Knowing he desired a career in law enforcement, Sgt. Boyce attended Missouri State University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology and a second bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Both degrees served a purpose in looking through a lens of both sides of the same coin. Knowing the criminal aspect and the social aspect gave perspective on the issues of criminal behavior from multiple angles.
Sgt. Boyce received the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Instructor Certification, allowing him to teach Active Shooter Response.
